The Holiday Shop was such a hit with the students last year, we knew immediately we were going to bring it back again this school year. And we absolutely need YOU to help us make this the best event possible for all our kids!
Last year, we had a few pinch-hitting parents who came in and covered a few days each over the course of the 2 weeks the shops were open and even with that, we never had more than 2 people covering a shop on any given day. There were even a couple days when a shop was only covered by one person! Let me tell you, that's just not enough. Yes, it can be done, but it's very difficult. Based on what we learned, we truly need 4 volunteers every day to keep things moving smoothly and provide the best experience for our kids.
We need 4 main areas covered during shop hours: helping kids with shopping, managing/counting their money when necessary (so much time was spent counting out change at the register instead of beforehand), gift wrapping, and monitoring the merch (unfortunately, we did have some instances of items disappearing because we just didn't have enough eyes to watch everything). It's nearly impossible for 2 people to handle the shop alone, and downright impossible for one person to do it on their own.
Please head over to our SignUp page to volunteer during this exciting event! We will be open 5 days at each school, 2 schools a week at a time, from 8:30am-2:30pm. As we understand that not everyone can give a whole day, we have broken coverage in to 2-3hr shifts per day. If you can only give 1, a couple shifts over the 5 days, or entire days all together.. whatever you can give will go SO far to making the whole shop run more smoothly! We can't express enough how much we need and absolutely appreciate every pair of extra hands we can get! While we do raise a modest amount of money with this event, we do this mostly as a service to our students - to provide and support real experience with money handling, budgeting, basic math skills, and the feeling that comes from thinking of others and giving. We were overwhelmed last year by the generosity of our students and how seriously they took buying gifts for their loved ones :)
